Admission Requirements for the Health Informatics Certificate
To be considered for full admission as a student seeking a Certificate in Health Informatics, the student should meet the following admission criteria by:
- Showing evidence of the ability to function successfully in a post-baccalaureate certificate program of academic study in health informatics. The student must provide an official transcript indicating the student has completed a baccalaureate degree; or a first-professional degree from a regionally-accredited body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; or be a seated P5 student in good academic standing within the UF Pharmacy program.
- Showing of the ability to function successfully across a breadth of course work, the student must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the last 64 semester hours of his/her undergraduate work or a graduate GPA of at least 3.0 in at least 9 hours of graduate work. This includes classes from all institutions attended.
- Fulfillment of the following prerequisite competencies, demonstrated by official transcript and course syllabus (if applicable), completion of courses or competency testing:
- Medical Terminology
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Introduction to Computers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Database Applications (Access or SQL)
Any prerequisite courses submitted for consideration must be completed with a final grade of “C” or above. Any competency tests taken must be completed with at least the minimum passing score. A student MAY be admitted under Conditional Admission status to complete their prerequisite competencies ONLY, and these must be completed within a specified timeframe. A student attains Full Admission status upon completion of the prerequisite competencies and all other admission requirements.
- Submitting a résumé outlining prior work experience.
- Submitting three letters of recommendation.
- Showing evidence of communication and language skills necessary for successful completion of a graduate degree. The student must achieve acceptable performance on a program-specific, structured writing project. The results and product will be retained in the student’s master file. The writing project will consist of a list of essay questions which all student candidates must answer as completely, grammatically correctly and as professionally as possible.
