Admission Requirements to the Master of Physician Assistant (MPA) Program

Admission to the MPA program requires:

  1. Submission of all official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to The University of Findlay.
  2. A completed and verified application received from the Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).
  3. Completion and submission of a MPA program Supplemental Application and associated fee within the deadline provided with the document. The Supplemental Application is provided automatically to CASPA applicants who meet the MPA program requirements.
  4. Submission of documentation demonstrating or providing the resources to calculate the following minimum grade point average (GPA) minimums:
    1. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 from all colleges or universities attended;
    2. A minimum science GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 as calculated and reported by CASPA;
    3. A minimum non-science GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 as calculated and reported by CASPA.
  5. A minimum grade of “C” and no more than two grades of “C” for all program prerequisites including, BIOL 322/BIOL 322L, BIOL 323/BIOL 323L, BIOL 310 (lab recommended, not required), BIOL 412/BIOL 412L; CHEM 130/CHEM 130L, CHEM 131/CHEM 131L, CHEM 310/CHEM 310L or CHEM 325/CHEM 325L or biochemistry; HEPR 220; MATH 123 or higher; PHYS 250/PHYS 250L; PSYC 100 and sociology or anthropology or courses deemed equivalent to these courses taken at other colleges or universities as determined by the Office of the Registrar and the PA program chair. The two-semester human anatomy and physiology sequence requirement (BIOL 322/BIOL 322L, BIOL 323/BIOL 323L) may be satisfied by a separate human vertebrate anatomy course and a human physiology course if the courses are deemed equivalent to the required anatomy and physiology courses.
  6. Applicants who have courses in progress at time of application to the MPA program must have the course completed prior to matriculation.
  7. There is no requirement for health care experience. Having no health care experience will not disqualify any candidate. Those with health care experience as reported to CASPA will be given preference in the admission process based on type and amount of experiences. Those with greater number of hours in a skilled position will be awarded more admission points than those with fewer hours in a less skilled position.
  8. A typed personal statement as part of the Supplemental Application.
  9. A current résumé as part of the Supplemental Application.
  10. A signed form acknowledging ability to meet technical standards (refer to technical standards section of the Supplemental MPA Program Application).
  11. Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or first-professional doctorate-degree, specifically when no baccalaureate degree was offered (e.g., PharmD. etc.).
  12. If an applicant is not a U.S. citizen, a minimum score as listed below on one of the TOEFL exams or the IELTS must be achieved:
    1. 100 on a verified Internet-based text (IBT) (minimum of 25 in speaking and 25 in writing)
    2. 8.0 overall minimum band score on an International English Testing System (IELTS)
    3. Additionally, if the applicant is not a U.S. citizen or if the student has non-U.S. school transcripts the University’s Office of International Admissions and Services requires additional specific documentation.   13. Participation and recommendation for admission by the Program Interview and Admission Committee.

NOTE: Once an applicant has been recommended for admission, he/she must provide the following information:

  1. Documentation of a current physical examination, including immunizations. The MPA program will provide the Physical Examination and Immunization Form prior to the scheduled orientation.
  2. A current certificate of completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers as recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  3. A completed background check prior to matriculation. The MPA program will provide guidelines for the students.
  4. Evidence of health care insurance at the time of matriculation.
