EDUC 250 Video Games & Learning
This course is designed to engage students in thinking deeply and critically about games and interactive media, as well as to strengthen students’ critical thinking about research and media reports on games. Course topics will include examining learning principles embedded into games; exploring models of situated, participatory, and interest-driven learning; and investigating games in a variety of content areas, including STEM, history, and literacy. Students will engage in critical analyses of games, conduct research of gameplay in naturalistic settings, and utilize interactive digital media formats. By the end of the course, students will be able to articulate the ways in which learning is a vital part of everyday life, relevant not only to formal educational contexts, but also to everyday work, socialization, and play.
